Mergics Virtual Private Network (VPN) client allows you to securely connect to a private network, such as your home or corporate LAN, using your handhelds Internet connection. This allows other applications that require network access, such as network HotSync, e-mail clients, and remote control clients to connect to the computers they need to access. Mergic VPN provides you with the connectivity using widely available authentication and encryption technologies along with the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP).
To use Mergic VPN youll need access to a VPN server running the PPTP protocol. PPTP server support is available as part of many platforms including most Cisco platforms, Nortel Networks VPN products, several of the Microsoft operating systems (Windows XP, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows NT Workstation and Server), Linux and other operating system and firewall/VPN servers and appliances such as those available from WatchGuard and SnapGear.

- Supports the PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAPv1, and MS-CHAPv2 authentication protocols. For security reasons, PAP authentication is disabled by default and, also by default, if the VPN server attempts to negotiate MS-CHAPv1, NT type responses are enabled and LAN Manager type responses are disabled. PAP authentication and LAN Manager type responses can be enabled by turning off the Encryption Required setting in Mergic VPN.
- Highly optimized encryption and authentication routines provide fast authentication and good perfomance over all network types, including 3G wireless networks and 802.11b wireless LANs.
