VFSMark 1.1
VFSMark measures expansion card operations more>>
VFS is found on most devices running PalmOS 4.x. It can also be found on Sony Clies running PalmOS v3.5, HandEra (formerly TRG) devices, and Handspring Visors using FlashAdapter compatible Springboard modules.
In addition to the variations on VFS implementations, the wide variety of expansion card brands and formats available adds an additional factor that can influence the performance of operations that use those cards.
Last but not least, utilities that improve the performance of the handheld (such as overclocking applications) can affect VFS performance as well.
With all these variations, its clear that a standard tool is necessary to measure VFS performance so that users can get an idea of what kind of performance can be expected from different system configurations. Thats where VFSMark comes in.
VFSMark measures the following types of expansion card operations:
- creating files
- deleting files
- writing to a file
- reading from a file
- moving to specific locations in a file
- exporting databases to the expansion card
- importing databases from an expansion card
- accessing records in a database on the expansion card
- accessing resources in a database on the expansion card
VFSMark shows the results of those tests relative the performance of a baseline system. The baseline chosen for VFSMark is a Palm m500 with a Palm 16MB SD card running without any overclocking or system performance enhancements.
VFSMark is Free software and full source code is included.
System requirements:
- Palm OS v3.1
VFSdos 2.02
VFSdos is a DOS shell console, text-based environment for Palm handheld computers equipped with a VFS expansion slot more>>
VFSdos should not be confused as a DOS emulator. It will not run the same DOS programs as your desktop. It will only run VFS DOS applications specifically written for it. Its main use is to allow developers to create command-line / console applications such as command-line assemblers (Im working on a PIC VFSdos assembler at this moment).
VFSdos is not designed to be used as a file management application. There are better solutions for this, such as McFile and TealMover. Its primary use is to provide a console text-based environment for the use and creation of command-line applications using the provided STDIOLIB shared library. It is also for those who miss the old DOS days of the PC (like me :-)
What do you need to run VFSdos: A palm equipped with a VFS expansion slot such as the m505, SONY Clie, or TRGpro (upgraded to OS 3.5.3) and an expansion memory card. You should also have a good knowledge about DOS on your PC. VFSdos is mostly targeted to old DOS programmers such as myself :-) Developers should have a look in the included DEVELOP.ZIP file for information on how to write VFSdos applications.
Enhancements:
- High density support for PalmOS 5 (80x53 screen)
- Color support for text output
- Bug fixes.

VFS Exchange 1.3
VFS Exchange is developed to be an easy to use utility which can easily feed files from the Palm OS Virtual File System into the Exchange Manager (a component of Palm OS). more>>
VFS Exchange 1.3 is developed to be an easy to use utility which can easily feed files from the Palm OS Virtual File System into the Exchange Manager (a component of Palm OS). It allows one to install certain files into the appropriate application, which avoids certain hassles. The effect is much like beaming the file to the handheld, but with an optional choice of receiving program.
Some examples: MIDI (.mid), WAVE (.wav), QCELP (.qcp), and Adaptive Multi-Rate ACELP (.amr) files can be installed into the sound database, for use as ringtones or alarms, on some devices such as the Treo 650 and 700p; Java midlets in .jar files can be installed into IBM's J9 Java environment.
Enhancements: Adds streamlined user interface, view support, and a new German translation.
