Smart Gamblers Calculator for Palm OS 1.0

Smart Gamblers Calculator for Palm OS 1.0

Smart Gamblers Calculator allows one to calculate the main parameters for fixed-size and fixed-fraction betting. more>>
Smart Gamblers Calculator allows one to calculate the main parameters for fixed-size and fixed-fraction betting.
The main input parameters are grouped into several groups. The first group contains data about the properties of a single bet: probability of winning the bet, and the payoff (prize-to-bet ratio). The second group contains parameters of the gamblers "comfort zone": bankroll, number of games to play (or number of bets to place), and desired profit or prize-to-win in these games/bets.
The calculator shows the expected value (profit/lose in the long run) and standard deviation (variability) of this gambling or investment opportunity.
For the fixed bet, the probabilities of reaching the goal and of losing the bankroll are calculated.
For the fixed-fraction betting strategy, the optimal fraction (percentage) of bankroll is determined.
In contrast to Kellys system, in which it is assumed that a player is a risk-averse person (so not a gambler) and which is applicable only to games with positive expected values, this system has none of these restrictions. The optimality is determined in the following way. First of all, the optimal fixed-fraction bet should minimize the probability of ruin. In theory, if money were "infinitely divisible," the probability of ruin in fixed-fraction betting is zero. The second objective/criterion is to maximize the probability of reaching the established goal, and the third objective/criterion is to maximize the expected value of the players bankroll, subject to restrictions set by the previous criteria.

Quad2Go 0.7.2

Quad2Go 0.7.2

Quad2Go offers you a powerful and easy-to-use tool for learning about quadrilaterals by generating examples, observing, and experimenting with examples with a view toward forming generalized conjectures. more>>

Quad2Go 0.7.2 offers you a powerful and easy-to-use tool for learning about quadrilaterals by generating examples, observing, and experimenting with examples with a view toward forming generalized conjectures. Explorations with Quad2Go are especially appropriate for 11-12 year old students. Teaching geometry to students of this age focuses on the critical attributes of quadrilaterals and on the hierarchical relations among them. Learning means identifying critical attributes and non-critical attributes.

For example, "four sides," "two pairs of parallel sides," or "two pairs of equal opposite angles" are some of the critical attributes of a parallelogram; "two long sides and two short sides" or "two acute angles and two obtuse angles" are non-critical attributes. Learning in this sense means learning to analyze the attributes of different quads, to distinguish between their critical and non-critical attributes, and learning the hierarchy among quads. Quad2Go provides many examples of randomly constructed quads. Each example can be changed by dragging either its vertices or sides.

Major Features:

  1. Similarly to frequently used Dynamic Geometry Environments (DGE) such as the Geometric Supposer, Cabri Geometry, and the Geometer Sketchpad, Quad2Go offers geometric objects, tools to manipulate them, and measurement tools. It is limited to quadrilaterals and the construction of diagonals.
  2. Quad2Go allows users to construct, view, and transform quadrilaterals compatible with the ones constructed with straight edge and compass, to measure lengths, angles, and areas, and to manipulate the construction by dragging and transforming its shape.
  3. Dragging allows changing a shape by direct translation of parts of its components on the screen. Learning by DGE is closely related to theories of constructivist learning, in which meaning is constructed through the learners active participation.

Requirements:

  • Java Enabled (J2ME) Phone - Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
  • Screen Resolution: 128 x 96 and above

The vOICe MIDlet for Mobile Camera Phone 1.28.0

The vOICe MIDlet for Mobile Camera Phone 1.28.0

The vOICe MIDlet translates live views from a camera phone into sounds that you hear via the phones speaker or headset, thus targetting sensory substitution applications and synthetic vision for the totally blind. Includes talking color identifier. more>>

The vOICe MIDlet for Mobile Camera Phone 1.28.0 is a special tool designed for the totally blind offers the experience of live camera views through sophisticated image-to-sound renderings. In theory this use of digital senses could lead to synthetic vision with truly visual sensations ("qualia") through crossmodal sensory integration, by exploiting the existing multisensory processing and neural plasticity of the human brain through training and education.

The vOICe implements a form of sensory substitution where the goal is to bind visual input to visual qualia with a minimum of training time and effort, and improve quality of life (QoL) for blind users. The vOICe also acts as a research vehicle for the cognitive sciences to learn more about the dynamics of large-scale adaptive processes, including attention and expectation guided bottom-up and top-down learning processes, and involving cross-modal neuromodulation in the human brain. Neuroscience research has already shown that the visual cortex of even adult blind people can become responsive to sound, and sound-induced illusory flashes can be evoked in most sighted people.

The vOICe technology may now build on this with live video from an unobtrusive head-mounted camera encoded in sound. The extent to which cortical plasticity and dynamic rerouting allow for functionally relevant rewiring or unmasking of neural pathways in the human brain is under investigation. Apart from functional relevance, a cross-modal binding for inducing visual sensations through sound (mental imagery and artificial synesthesia) would also be of great psychological importance. The possible role of The vOICe perceptual interface technology in cross-modal neuromodulation and synesthetic effects is being explored and developed under the Open Innovation paradigm together with many R&D partners around the world. Any potential clinical uses of The vOICe technology will be investigated only through qualified research partners in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Possible future extensions include support for sonar, binocular vision, object recognition, eye-tracking and brainwave entrainment as neural engineering ingredients in a highly modular, adaptive and preferably non-invasive and unobtrusive brain-computer interface and cognitive vision system for augmented perception and augmented cognition.

  1. Implements a form of sensory substitution where the goal is to bind visual input to visual qualia with a minimum of training time and effort, and improve quality of life (QoL) for blind users.
