ALed 1.0 is a simple to use and very useful part in the daily use of PalmOS PDAs. Unfortunately, only Handera has found a satisfying solution regarding alarms that were triggered while the user was absent: on the Handera 330 the LED will continuously blink until the alarm is acknowledged. This way you can immediately see when you return to your PDA that it wants your attention.

ALed is adding the same feature to PalmOS 4.x devices with an LED (Palm m500, m505, m515 and Sony Clié devices with PalmOS 4.0 or 4.1). Whenever an alarm is displayed, ALed will make the LED blink in a user-specified pattern. The LED will also stay on while the device is off (on Palm m5xx devices it will continue to blink, on Sony Clié devices it will just be on). As soon as the alarm is acknowledged, the LED will stop blinking.

Pinger 2 offers you the ability to trade quick voice messages with any US mobile phone without ringing it. Just call the Pinger number, say the names of the people (or group) you want to message and talk.

Recipients hear the message right away. There are no annoying prompts, and recipients can reply or forward with a single button. It's faster than typing and powered by your voice. With the Treo app, you'll also have a visual preview of your last 10 Pinger messages (with info like sender, timestamp and duration).

Just click a message and it plays right away. Best of all, Pinger is free! The developer doen't charge you anything, though your carrier's normal call and text rates may apply.

VFS provides a standard way for PalmOS applications to access an expansion card.
VFS is found on most devices running PalmOS 4.x. It can also be found on Sony Clies running PalmOS v3.5, HandEra (formerly TRG) devices, and Handspring Visors using FlashAdapter compatible Springboard modules.
In addition to the variations on VFS implementations, the wide variety of expansion card brands and formats available adds an additional factor that can influence the performance of operations that use those cards.
Last but not least, utilities that improve the performance of the handheld (such as overclocking applications) can affect VFS performance as well.
With all these variations, its clear that a standard tool is necessary to measure VFS performance so that users can get an idea of what kind of performance can be expected from different system configurations. Thats where VFSMark comes in.
VFSMark measures the following types of expansion card operations:
- creating files
- deleting files
- writing to a file
- reading from a file
- moving to specific locations in a file
- exporting databases to the expansion card
- importing databases from an expansion card
- accessing records in a database on the expansion card
- accessing resources in a database on the expansion card
VFSMark shows the results of those tests relative the performance of a baseline system. The baseline chosen for VFSMark is a Palm m500 with a Palm 16MB SD card running without any overclocking or system performance enhancements.
