Mechanics was written using HanDBase version 3. It is an applet designed for the automobile mechanic that provides an environment that meets the majority of the days activities. The "linked", "relationship," and "database popup" (DB popup), and popup field types are used throughout the application. There are thirteen databases. The number of related records is displayed next to the "related" field type. Links are provided to the child databases for editing of those databases. As a note, deleting files must be done from the parent record in order to maintain proper indexing. In addition, there are times incorrect record counts are displayed; when that occurs, the child database needs to be reindexed. This requires displaying each entry in the affected child database and then redisplaying of the parent record. The display category used is "business." The main database is Mechanics. It displays links to the child databases. This database does not store any data, hence, when it is started, a blank line is displayed. Click on the blank line to view the available links. The following databases are available: Certifications, Contact list, Customers, Customer Vehicles, Inventory, Jobs to Do, Notes, To Do, Suppliers, and Supplies. MechCertificate - Certifications - a database to keep track of certifications. Captured information includes the name of the certification, date issued, date expired, required (yes/no), issued by, when class held, where class held, cost and running cost. MechContacts - Contact List - a database to keep track of personal/company contacts. Captured information includes name, address, phone number, notes, next contact date and date created. MechCustomers - Customer list - a database to track customer information. Captured information includes name, customer number, phone number, address, vehicle information (via relational value), notes (via relational value), and a link to edit notes. MechCustVehs - Customer Vehicles - a database to track customer vehicles. Captured information includes customer number, vehicle make, model, year, odometer reading, VIN, color, visible damage, and notes. MechInventory - Inventory - a database to track inventory. Captured information includes, item description, item number, serial number, item condition (pop-up), date purchased, cost, supplier, supplier px, running cost (calculated field that tracks total cost information), notes, picture available (pop-up), insured (pop-up), insured value, and running insured value. MechJobs - Jobs to Do - a database to track the jobs to be done. Captured information includes date, customer name, selection of vehicle, job number, work to do, and cost. Editing of the customer number and vehicle information is also allowed using the "linked" field type. Work ToDo (MechPartNeeded) is a "child" database of MechJobs and captures the work to be done and its cost. The total cost of the work to be done is displayed next to COST in the MechJobs database. Selection of the vehicle to be worked on is done using the "DB-Popup" field type. When tapped on, it displays a list of vehicles sorted by customer number and vehicle make. Tapping on the entry work is being done on brings the data into the database. MechNotes - Notes - a database to capture notes from the various databases. Just a handy thing to do. Lots of relationships are used here to capture and display the entries for the various related databases. MechToDo - a to do list - not to be confused with work to be done. Information captured includes action, date to do, time to do, done (check box), time done, date done, notes (this is a relational field with MechNotes), the ability to edit the notes database, cost information, amount owed, running cost, running amount owed. MechSuppliers - Suppliers - a database to capture supplier information. Information captured includes name of supplier, payment method, address, city, state, zip code, phone number, fax number, email address, and notes. The notes here do not branch to a different database. MechSupplies - Supplies - MechSupply - a simple supply database. It is a one entry databsae that captures only supplies, such as hand cleaner, oil, et cetera.

DarkRoom+ is a timer for developing film. Select your film, temperature, desired contrast, and development. Hit Go, and the timer will tell you when to agitate, how long to develop, how long to rinse, and how long to fix. Additional options allow changing all stage times, turning off/on audio for agitation, and changing agitation timing.

Everything in order
funBOOK manages telephone numbers in any number of WorkBooks. Each WorkBook record consists of a name, call number and a memory slot (on the mobile or a SIM card).

Importing into funBOOK
Telephone numbers can be imported into a WorkBook from a Palm address book, a mobile phone or from another WorkBook. When importing from a Palm address book, the user can choose between simple or complex compilation rules to define how the name on the mobile phone is to be composed from the first name, surname or the company name. If required, a type designation can also be attached to the name. If only certain sections of addresses are to be imported, these can be selected individually or by using the convenient filter rules.

Exporting from funBOOK
The contents of a WorkBook can be exported to a mobile phone or into a Palm address book. When exporting to a mobile, it is only possible to transfer either edited records or the entire WorkBook. All existing records on the mobile are deleted first when exporting a complete WorkBook. Either selected records or an entire WorkBook can be imported into a Palm address book, however, whereby a call number can be allocated to an existing record or created as a new record.

And this is how easy it is to edit the phone book on your mobile
Lets assume that you want to edit your mobiles phone book. To do this, select the function "Import from mobile" in the Start Center. This creates a new WorkBook and all your phone numbers are loaded from the mobile. You can now edit or delete the records, or create new ones. When you have finished, export the WorkBook back to your mobile phone.

And this is how easy it is to transfer a Palm address book to your mobile phone
Lets assume here that you want to export all the call numbers from a Palm address book to your mobile phone. To do this, first create a new WorkBook and then open it. If required, you can change the rules you want to use for compiling the names in the settings. Sample records immediately demonstrate what effects your changes will have. Then select "Import from address book". If you do not want any fax numbers in your mobile phone, set the filter so that the phone number type is unequal to "Fax". Select the function "Export to mobile" to transfer all the call numbers to your mobile phone.

Extremely communicative
funBOOK and funSMS 3 are extremely communicative and support mobile phone links using an infrared, Bluetooth or serial interface. And to make using it even more simple, they also support the Palm 5-Way Navigator, the Sony JogDial, as well as the Handspring Rocker Switch.

Complying with standards
funBOOK uses the AT commands defined in the GSM standard to access the mobile phones address book. A large number of mobiles offer extended phone book functionality. Unfortunately, however, these are frequently incompatible with external interfaces and can therefore not be supported by funBOOK. funBOOK can be used with many mobile phones from Siemens to configure the function VIP.

HomeworkRelease2 was written using HanDBase version 3 and its accompanying forms utility. It is a "relational" applet that tracks homework and project assignments, contacts, and to do. The "linked", "relationship," and "database popup" (DB popup) field types are used throughout the application. There are nine databases. In most instances, the number of related records is displayed next to the "related" field type. Links are provided to the child databases for editing of those databases. As a note, deleting files must be done from the parent record in order to maintain proper indexing. The data contained is for testing purposes only. This release has been updated to includes forms and a general cleanup of the applet. There are two files in this archive. The one titled "HomeworkColor.zip" is for color based devices. The one titled "HomeworkMonochrome.zip" is for monochrome based devices. The primary database is "HomeWork." The following information is captured, date, classes (a db-popup field type to either import a value or create a new value). Edit displayed class (relational that allows the editing of the currently displayed "Classes" or the creation of a new value). Classes by date (relational). Class schedule, "a db-popup" field type to import a class into the parent record. Display Class (relational) to view/edit the displayed class, a contact list entry, editing of the contact via "Displayed Contact" (relational). "To Do" and Todays To Do, and notes. Links are provided to edit the various child databases. "ClassList" - a one field child database that provides a list of valid class names. From the parent record, this is obtained via the "db-popup" field type. "Classes" - a child database that captures information concerning the class. Information includes: date, class, homework (relational), project (relational), and notes. The homework and project fields are relational and tied to the class record displayed. "ProjectAsnt" is a child database of "Classes" that captures project information. Information captured includes date, class, project assignment, date due, number of days (calculated), completed (check box to mark for completion), and notes. "HomeworkAssnt" is a cihdl database of "Classes" that captures homework information. Information includes date, class, homework assignment, date due, number of days (calculated), completed (check box to mark for completion), and notes. "ClassSchedule" is a child database that captures: class name, days, date, time(s), teacher, building/room # and notes. The currently displayed teacher may be viewed using the "relational" field type and the teacher list edited using the "linked" field type. "ClassTeachers" is a child database that captures teacher name, classes instructed, office hours, office/home/other phone numbers, email address(s) and notes. "ClassContacts" is a child database that captures name of contact, address, phone #, email address, notes, next contact date and date created. "ClassToDo" is a child database that captures action, date to do, time to do, a check box to indicate "done," time done, date done, note, and cost factors.
