In this mode you can pause the movement of the raindrops (if they dont move, the phone will be faster). You can also hide/show them.
In the second mode it captures the screen, and adds raindrops/snowflakes on the captured image. So it will be like a screensaver. You can capture the image immediately, or after a fixed delay (10sec), or after 30sec of inactivity (just like a screensaver). In this mode the phones screen is completely hidden, to return to normal mode press * then #.
