Portable HxD 1.7.7.0 is an application which is the portable version of a hex editor having RAW disk editing, modifying foreign RAM and handling files of any size. It has a clear interface offering searching/replacing, exporting, check-sums/digests, insertion of byte patterns, a file shredder, concatenation or splitting of files, statistics and more.
Editing works like in a text editor with functions streamlined to hide differences that are purely technical. For example you can view a drive just as one stream, can open it under Windows 9x or Windows NT+, undo, search, save, export or whatever you could do with a file.
There is no sector-limited editing that gets in your way. The same holds true for the file size (also > 4 GB), which doesn't affect editing speed and still supports undo. ViewChar is the result of sitting, bored, waiting for a term exam one day and hacking away at some database I/O routines. I wanted to see the ascii code for a non-printing character, so I thought "lets write a quick, 5-minute app to do it".
And then I started and it grew in the way that programs tend to. So now we have ViewChar which converts between ASCII, decimal, and any other base from 2 - 36.
Its useful if you are looking for a quick way to see the equivalents of characters in the common bases, to see what a particular number is as a character, or to convert binary/decimal to hex without having to think (i.e. if you dont do it often, but sometimes).
It also knows the call codes for most of the nonprinting chars (STX, ACK, NACK, LF, etc.), which is useful as a memory aid.

Tips:
Continue the last game to change the same parameter, and the result is same (no change), just "Write at first result" does not need the search action.
