Airport Insight 2..20
Airport Insight offers a very helpful wealth of aviation information at your finger tips with frequency, runway, navigation, and other information available for all public use airports in the United States. more>>
Airport Insight 2..20 offers a very helpful wealth of aviation information at your finger tips with frequency, runway, navigation, and other information available for all public use airports in the United States. It is a great flight planning tool, and has been designed to be easy to use in the cockpit as well for those unplanned diversions. Leveraging the quick database access capabilities of the Palm OS, you can look up airport information far faster than is possible with traditional printed information.
Major Features:
- Frequency
- Looking for a ground frequency? How about the frequency of the nearest air route traffic control center (ARTCC)? Or maybe you forgot to jot down the clearance delivery frequency before leaving the flight planning room? Airport Insight provides you with all the latest frequencies for your airport of choice. What's more, since it requires less time to look up a frequency than thumbing through an airport/facility directory or trying to find the ARTCC frequency in the small table on the back of the sectional chart, it's safer. Less heads-down time means more heads-up time looking for other traffic.
- Runway
- Airport Insight also features complete runway information for all airports in the database. The runway detail summary information quickly displays the available runways and their size, allowing you to determine if there the runway meets your takeoff or landing requirements. Many times, this information alone will be enough to meet your needs but when it is not, tapping on the runway name (with either the stylus or your finger) will display more detailed information about that particular runway.
- Detailed runway information includes the size, magnetic alignment for both the base and reciprocal runway ends, surface type and condition, weight restrictions, and runway obstruction remarks. If a particular runway has a right hand traffic specified, that information will be shown as well. For either left or right hand traffic, Airport Insight can even tell you how to enter the pattern when you tap on the name of the runway you wish to use...
- After a long flight, even experienced pilots sometimes have to think twice about how to enter the pattern for their chosen runway. Airport Insight makes this incredibly easy by visually displaying the 45 degree entry, downwind, base, and final leg headings of the pattern for the selected runway. Airport Insight can also calculate headwind and crosswind components for any wind that might exist. Many accidents which occur while landing occur when the pilot choses the wrong runway and lands downwind or lands in a crosswind which exceeds the capability of the aircraft or pilot - don't let this happen to you!
- Where's the Airport?
- Airport Insight has a built-in bearing & distance feature that can give you direct headings to any airport in the database, and if you supply true airspeed and wind information, it will even calculate your ground speed and how long it will take you to get there! This is perfect for those "what-if" scenarios as well as a sanity check against other flight planning tools. The bearing & distance calculator can work with airspeed supplied in either knots or miles-per-hour, so it fits whatever you happen to be flying!
- All nearby navigational aids such as VORs, VOR/DMEs, VORTACs, and NDBs are available in a concise format that is easy to read while allowing you to continue your #1 task: flying the airplane! It's also a great reference for flight planning - the information is updated more frequently than VFR sectional charts, giving you an extra margin of safety.
- Navigating to the airport is one thing; visually confirming that it is the correct airport is quite another. All kinds of pilots in all kinds of aircraft, civilian and military alike, have made the mistake of landing at the wrong airport. Airport Insight can diagram the runway layout of your selected airport, making visual confirmation quick and easy. This visual confirmation also helps you plan your entry into the airspace surrounding the airport - another safety plus! Finally, if you are using a GPS or LORAN unit, the geographic center of the airport is displayed with a star - this is helpful in determining your exact distance from the airport.
- Conduit Configuration
- To help conserve memory on your handheld computer, Airport Insight comes with a conduit that lets you specify which airports should be included in the database. The full database of public use airports in the United States consumes approximately 4MB of memory, however, you can easy trim this to fit in almost any Palm. For example, data for all airports in Minnesota requires only 51KB or so of memory. If you are just flying in a small area, take only the data you need with you!
- Airport Insight is also the only airport directory for Palm OS which allows you to utilize data stored on Secure Digital, Compact Flash, or Memory Stick media. If you have a HandEra 330, TRG Pro, Palm m500/m525, Sony Clie, or other device which supports expanded memory with Palm's VFS feature, you can carry the entire database with you while using only 120KB of memory on the Palm device!
- Give it a Try!
- There's much more that Airport Insight offers: Airport management and service information, instrument landing systems, airspace information, etc. You can even jot down quick notes about a specific airport using the built-in airport memo feature! Probably the best way to experience Airport Insight is to try our free demo - it will demonstrate the features and benefits of Airport Insight much better than can a web page or glossy brochure!

Aviation Flashcards is an easy to use, high performance set of SuperMemo databases created to study material covered in the FAA Airmen Knowledge Test for Private Pilot--Airplane.
Feel free to modify and share the databases. Substitute Va, Vy, etc. with the appropriate airspeeds of the aircraft you fly. This is not a comprehensive review. Limited time and space forced me to omit many important topics and many important details. Sure errors and inaccuracies remain despite my attempts to get the information correct. When in doubt, check the current FAR's and other references before you decide an answer in this set is correct.
The databases are:
- Aviation Airspace - 50 cards covering airspace regulations.
- Aviation Info 1 - 50 cards covering a range of topics, including airspeeds, compass errors, transponder codes, and light gun signals.
- Aviation Info 2 - 50 cards covering a range of topics, including altitudes, altimeters, and right-of-way rules.
