WalkieTalkie VOIP 2.0.1 description
WalkieTalkie VOIP 2.0.1 offers you an easy-to-use, low-latency, high-quality Voice-over-IP designed for communicating between PCs, Macs, and iPhones. Pick a username, and start calling. By using a 'locator' server, connections behind most routers can be easily brokered without opening ports.
Conference calling between three or more parties is possible (with the desktop client hosting) as well. Unlike other VOIP clients, call data doesn't bounce off a third party server, so latency is low.
A 'locator' server is only used for exchanging connection information when calling by username. The author runs a public server, but anyone can run their own (it's built into the client).
This program is meant to be as simple as possible while still being very useful. It requires no central directory servers, you just enter the DNS name or IP of the person you want to call. It is very lightweight in terms of bandwidth (about 13kbit/sec per direction) and processor usage.
Enhancements:
- Include UI improvements
- Fix for routers that is so symmetric-NAT when brokering calls.
