DaCapo keeps the beat for you. In addition to regular metronome functions, like Italian speed names + bpm display, adjustable tuning pitch and visual indicator there are many other features. Accents can be set at different intervals to emulate meters like 3/4 or 7/8. Also measure groupings can be created like a 12 measure blues form. In addition DaCapo features easy access with big buttons, hardkey mapping and great graphic layout. A must-have for practicing on the road. DaCapo is used in many schools and a great tool for music education.
The Main Screen
There are four buttons on the main screen. Top left is the Tuning button and to the right of it the Play button, which starts the metronome. The speed buttons at the bottom can each be tapped on the left side to slow the tempo down or on the right side to increase it.
The Preferences Dialog
Tapping the Options/Preferences menu will get you to this dialog. It has four tabs (General, Click, Sound and Form) each of which will be described in the following. Sampled sounds are only available on devices with Palm OS 5 and Sound Stream Manager installed and interface elements regarding these will be hidden on other devices.
General (Preferences)
Num. Increment determines by how much the speed is adjusted via the bottom right speed button and Tuning Pitch sets the note for the Tuning button. Enable Hardkeys maps the DateBook key to the Tuning button and the MemoPad key to Play button.
Click (Preferences)
Sampled or Pitch decides what kind of sound will be played for beats. If Pitch is selected the note showing in the Pitch popup will be played. Otherwise the selections in the popups under Sampled Sounds will be heard. With pitched sounds accented and group clicks will be octave shifts of the selected pitch.
Sound (Preferences)
This panel is very straight forward. If Sound is selected sounds will be played, otherwise the DaCapo will operate silently. With the slider you can set the volume. An indicator on the menubar of the main form displays the volume settings.
Form (Preferences)
When Accent is checked every numbered beat as shown in the popup next to it will sound differently. The same holds true for Group. Since the Accent determines the length of a measure it must be checked for the group setting to work. With this feature you can create songforms that can be up to 48 measures long and have a variety of meters.
