For the first time, the definitive Mah-Jongg has come to the Pocket PC. Shanghai Pocket Essentials is a modern, solitaire version of the same named ancient oriental game, based on Activisions Shanghai Mah-Jongg series. Now LandWare has brought the graphics and play options to the handheld platform.
Built on a custom engine using standard Activision graphics and layouts, the handheld version brings desktop game performance to your handheld. You can even create your own layouts, up to five levels deep, right on your handheld and share them with your friends.

Select from over 100 layouts organized into 6 collections. Options range from simple, quick games to complex layouts that will challenge you during even the longest airplane delays
In addition, you can create your own layouts either from scratch or get a head start by duplicating one of the built-in layouts.
The powerful built-in layout editor lets you you can create your own layouts with ease. Tap on the screen to add a tile, or tap on a tile to remove it. Layouts may be 9 tiles wide by 8 tall and 5 levels deep.
You may then define which game type each layout is playable with and share collections with your friends.
Multiple options let you configure Shanghai to work the way you want. Enable or disable sound music and animation to customize your game play.
Four different play modes enhance the fun and variety, each requiring a different strategy to clear the playing field.
An entire collection of layouts designed especially for kids with less complex layouts. In addition, the Math layout makes a perfect learning tool. Tiles are matched based on an equation and its solution. For instance, the tile that says 2+2 matches the tile that says =4.
There is plenty of challenge for the experienced player.
Try Contemplation mode where all tiles start out FACE DOWN. Tap a tile to reveal its pattern and use your memory to locate where the matching tile is located.
Got stuck? Tap the Hint button to show tiles that match.
Really stuck? With the tap of a button, Shuffle the existing tiles or Replay the current game from the start
After a successfully removed all of the tiles, your top scores will be recorded. A record of the games elapsed time, the date, layout, play mode, game number and the number of hints and your name will all be stored.
