Prometheus was a very innovative god. He made up men from mud and gave them the characters of good and bad from all kinds of animals. However, they were only half human beings, since they lack the spirit. Athena, the wisdom goddess, after knowing what Prometheus had done, came to help him. She breathed vitality into human being¡¯s mouth, and made them true men.
Prometheus taught people many things, but he found there was still one thing left£­the fire. Unfortunately, he made a trick on Zeus, which made Zeus very angry, and declared to punish him. As one of the punishments, Zeus rejects to give human beings the last thing to complete their culture¡ªthe fire.
Prometheus stole the kindling secretly. Zeus, on seeing the flare rising from the earth became really out of rage. He sends two fellows to tie Prometheus on Caucasus, hanging him there straightly, never allowing him to sleep. His tired knees can never bend neither, since his hands, arms, shoulder and legs are all tied by iron chain, while a diamond nail tacks in the chest. He bears hungry and thirsty, hot and cold, wind and rain, except that, Zeus appoints his divine eagle to peck Prometheus¡¯s liver everyday. But the eaten liver will grow back again. A huge ferocious dragon stays there to guard. Day after day and year after year,
Prometheus, for human¡¯s happiness, suffers inenarrable pain and agony timelessly.
When human beings got the news, they swear that they will rescue Prometheus. They choose a very brave man named Adieus, who carries people¡¯s bailment starting his journey!!
