Keeping track of these foods and knowing when to discard them is important to maintain good food safety. All food should be dated when stored. Rotating foods in and out is important - follow the principle of first in, first out (FIFO) rule. Discard any canned food product in which there is rust on the can, bent or dented cans, and any bulging canned food products.
